Loretta E. Lynch is the current United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York. She has held this position since 2010. She previously held this position from 1999-2001. During her first term as US Attorney Lynch oversaw prosecution of the New York police officers in the Abner Louima case.

Lynch was born in Greensboro, North Carolina in 1959.[1] She received a bachelor's degree from Harvard College in 1981 and a J.D. from Harvard Law School in 1984.[2]
Lynch first joined the Eastern District as a staff attorney in 1990. She was the lead prosecutor in the political corruption cases involving the government of Brookhaven, New York.
Lynch served as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York from June 1999 to May 2001.[1]
On January 20, 2010, President Barack Obama nominated Lynch to again serve as United States Attorney for the Eastern District of New York.[2][3]
